P63/3. An opal glass cream jug

A small baluster-shaped cream jug in pale blue opal glass, with slender handle and on a low foot. English c. 1830-40 Height 7.8 cm An interesting jug in opal glass which would seem to be of English manufacture.  As with the finer quality French opaline, this cream jug shows considerable amber coloured ‘fire’ which was either tin or arsenic oxide in the glass mix.  Perhaps Richardson’s or Bacchus but other English factories produced opal glass.
